Developer Tracy Suttles of the Houston area is behind the project. He said demolition should be complete this summer and work should start on a parking lot after that. He has an option for the site that he plans to exercise soon, he said, and he hopes to start construction on two hotels at the site in the first quarter of 2018. Negotiations with hotel operators are ongoing, he said.

Tracy Suttles, president of multifamily firm NBC Holdings, will team up with The Randall Davis Co. to redevelop the derelict 11-story Kirby Building at 917 Main St. in downtown Houston into about 70 rental units. Suttles purchased the building, built in 1926, in 2002. Retailers will occupy the street level of the building as well as the basement and part of the second floor.
